Case Study

Skiller turned a pub quiz into a prize competition. Under the line “Play for fun, play for glory & play for gift too”, players answered twenty multiple-choice questions against a draining clock, and the leaderboard decided who walked away with the prize — a Samsung Galaxy A3, an Alcatel Idol 2, a holiday to Thailand. Presented by MTV, it ran across Serbian venues and on mobile through 2016.

The brand is loud on purpose. A caricatured showman in a top hat and red tailcoat hosts every screen, set against hand-lettered headlines, polaroid prize cards, paper-clipped sponsor plates and a sun-burst of saturated colour. The key art was built to re-skin: the same splash carries MTV, Huawei, Gigatron or the Jungle Tribe travel brand without being redrawn, in Serbian and English, and the frame was taken over whole for event activations such as MTV’s Šabac Summer Festival in July 2016.

The game loop is tuned for speed. Each question is a timed bar that starts at 2,000 points and drains while you think, so a fast right answer is worth far more than a slow one, and a row of stars tracks hits and misses across the round. Two lifelines sit under the host’s medal — “Discard 2” removes two wrong answers, “Freeze” stops the clock — and coins gate entry: a free practice game costs nothing, a phone competition costs ten, and booster codes top a balance up. Finish a round and you see your score, your rank and the prize countdown, with one tap to play again, email the result or share it.

Behind the game sits the operator console. Customers, cities, venues and terminals are organised in one tree; reports break play down by game round, terminal, transaction, session and coins; and each quiz is configured as a theme — category, language, customer, start and end dates, buy-in, max rebuys, VAT, prize share, max time and max points per answer. Questions are bulk-uploaded and edited per category and language, with a bank of nearly 1,800 questions behind the live game.

Home — the host, the promise and two big buttons.
Sign-up — four fields, or one tap with Facebook or Google+.
Lobby — pick a competition; coins decide what you can enter.
